With a little care your Frost blanket will warm you and your family for decades.  (We still use blankets Amala made over 30 years ago!)

Washing Baby and Cotton Blankets

Our organic cotton blankets can be machine washed. They have been pre-washed and pre-shrunk at FROST before sending to your home.  A natural soap, rather than detergent, is preferred. Tumble dry low.

Washing Wool and Cashmere Blankets

Your Frost blanket does not need to be washed frequently, since wool naturally repels dirt. Do wash the blanket before storing for any period of time, and to freshen it periodically. If you do store the blanket seasonally, simply wash, fold carefully, and store in the cloth bag provided. We do not recommend drycleaning Wool or Cashmere Blankets as the chemicals sometimes strip materials of their natural protective fiber qualities.

Bathtub Method

1. Fill a clean bathtub halfway with lukewarm water – neither warm nor cool to the touch.  Add a small amount of woolwash or gentle, natural soap such as Eucalan Fine Fabric Wash, The Laundress Wool & Cashmere Shampoo, or Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Soap (NOT detergent).

2. Place the blanket gently into the bath and gradually let it become submerged, giving it a gentle squeeze.  Allow the blanket to soak for several minutes – up to 30 – gently squeezing or swishing periodically.  Never agitate or scrub.

3. After a final squeeze and swish of the blanket, allow the water to drain.  While doing so, raise the wet blanket up and very gently squeeze out excess water – never wring. It will be full of water and heavy at this point. Rest it on an over-bath rack or let it sit in a clean sink nearby.

4. To release any residual soap, again fill the bathtub halfway with lukewarm water – neither warm nor cool to the touch. Place the blanket gently into the bath and gradually let it become submerged.  Gently squeeze and swish the blanket.  It is ok to let it soak, but not necessary at this stage.

6. After a final squeeze and swish of the blanket, allow the water to drain from the bathtub.  While doing so, very gently squeeze out excess water from the blanket as best you can – never wring. If you wish, you can roll it in a towel to absorb some of the water.

7. Hang the blanket to dry – outdoors on a clothesline or across a shower rod.  NEVER PUT A WOOL OR CASHMERE BLANKET IN THE DRYER.

8. While still slightly damp you may steam press the blanket.  Make sure it is completely dry before storing.

Top Loading Washer Method

This method is for use in top-loading washers only.  Not all washers allow for “manual" use.  You will be using the washer as a tub and gentle spinner.  Check your unit’s instructions to determine if you will be able to: Fill the washer with water when empty. Run the spin cycle on Gentle or Delicate.  If so, follow these steps.

1. Fill the washer with lukewarm water and a small amount of woolwash or natural soap.

2. Introduce the blanket gently until it is immersed. Soak for 10-30 minutes with gentle swishing and squeezing periodically – by hand! Do not trust even a gentle agitation in a machine!

3. Gentle or Delicate drain and Spin cycle. Do not use Rinse cycle.

4. Remove the wet blanket.
5. Fill the washer as in step 1. but with no soap.

6. Gently immerse the blanket, swish and squeeze by hand for 3 - 5 minutes.

7. Run the gentle or Delicate drain and Spin cycle.

8. Remove the blanket and hang to dry on a clothesline or shower rod. NEVER PUT A WOOL OR CASHMERE BLANKET IN THE DRYER.

9. Steam press.
